Programme 08

Vascular Ageing Measurement

Non-invasive instrument-based diagnostics for the early detection of atherosclerotic changes — particularly for cardiovascular risk patients.

The vessels age individually — and often faster than chronological age suggests. Atherosclerotic changes begin years before the first symptoms. Non-invasive measurement methods allow the biological age of the vessels to be determined and cardiovascular risk to be assessed early.

Examination methods

  • Ankle-brachial index (ABI) to detect PAD
  • Intima-media thickness (IMT) of the carotid artery
  • Colour-coded duplex sonography of the cerebral arteries
  • Pulse wave analysis / arterial stiffness
  • Peripheral arterial pulse screening (Doppler)
  • Aortic sonography (abdominal aortic aneurysm screening)
  • Evaluation with risk stratification
  • Cardiovascular prevention plan

Detect early, prevent in a targeted way

The results feed into an individual risk stratification. From this we derive concrete, graduated measures — from lifestyle advice to guideline-based drug therapy where indicated.

Medical indications

This programme is considered in particular for the following constellations. The individual indication is determined by the physician in a personal consultation.

  • Cardiovascular risk factors (hypertension, diabetes, smoking, hyperlipidaemia)
  • Family history (heart attack, stroke)
  • Peripheral arterial disease
  • Stroke prevention / history of TIA
  • Men > 50 / women > 55 with risk factors
  • Abdominal aortic aneurysm screening (men > 65)

Where there is a documented medical indication, these services are exempt from VAT as medical treatment (§ 4 No. 14a of the German VAT Act). The decisive factor is the therapeutic objective, which is documented traceably in the patient record.

Personal consultation

Whether and to what extent this programme is appropriate for you is something we clarify together in a personal consultation.

The nature and scope of the services actually provided depend on the individual medical indication and are documented per patient. Billing is itemised under the German Medical Fee Schedule (GOÄ).
