Smoking Cessation

Physician-led, evidence-based smoking cessation — legally recognised as medical treatment and expressly exempt from VAT.

Quitting smoking is the single most effective measure to reduce cardiovascular and cancer risk. Medically supervised cessation significantly increases the chances of success — through the combination of medication support, behavioural guidance and objective follow-up.

Scope of services

  • Initial history with smoking biography and motivation analysis
  • CO breath test (carbon monoxide measurement)
  • Dependence assessment (Fagerström test)
  • Laboratory diagnostics (COHb, cotinine) and spirometry
  • Individualised cessation plan
  • Medication support (nicotine replacement, bupropion, varenicline)
  • Behavioural brief intervention (motivational interviewing)
  • Accompanying individual or group therapy
  • Relapse prevention strategy and follow-up

Medical indications

This programme is considered in particular for the following constellations. The individual indication is determined by the physician in a personal consultation.

  • Nicotine dependence
  • COPD / chronic bronchitis
  • Coronary heart disease, PAD, hypertension with smoking status
  • Cancer prevention / oncological risk profile
  • Pregnancy (absolute indication)
  • Preoperative conditioning

Physician-led smoking cessation is legally recognised as medical treatment and is expressly exempt from VAT (§ 4 No. 14a of the German VAT Act).
